Theocracy Watch: Gov. Rick Perry

Texas Gov. Rick Perry is making the rounds in the news lately as potential GOP Presidential candidate. They just keep scraping the bottom of the barrel, don't they? Anyway, Perry is 100% Grade-A Texas Christo-Fascist Theocrat.

The evidence:

Perry recently referred to himself as a "prophet."

via Think Progress:
CAVUTO: You have kind of like the Chris Christie phenomenon: very popular outside your state, still popular but not nearly as popular within your state. There are even Tea Party groups within your state who like you but don’t love you. [...] What do you say?
PERRY: I say that a prophet is generally not loved in their hometown. That’s both Biblical and practical.

He certainly has the megalomania and martyr complex to be a politician AND religious “leader.”

In another episode, via Right Wing Watch, Perry made the following statement:
“The current economic crisis will lead us…back to Biblical principles.”
He also then compares the U.S. government to the Egyptian Pharaoh and citizens as slaves.

Back in 2009 while in an election battle Perry made the following statement:
“You know, they’re telling us which cars to buy and which lightbulbs to use now. But they ought not be telling us whether we can go to Baptist, Methodist, whichever one,” he said.
But it is quite different and, I would say, extreme, to say that our laws should not be inspired and informed by the views of the faithful. Freedom of religion is not to be confused with freedom from religion.

There are actually too many examples for me to include then all here, but I’ll end with a doozy. Perry, as governor, has proclaimed August 6 a Day or Prayer and Fasting.

Fellow Americans,
Right now, America is in crisis: we have been besieged by financial debt, terrorism, and a multitude of natural disasters. As a nation, we must come together and call upon Jesus to guide us through unprecedented struggles, and thank Him for the blessings of freedom we so richly enjoy.

Some problems are beyond our power to solve, and according to the Book of Joel, Chapter 2, this historic hour demands a historic response. Therefore, on August 6, thousands will gather to pray for a historic breakthrough for our country and a renewed sense of moral purpose.

I sincerely hope you’ll join me in Houston on August 6th and take your place in Reliant Stadium with praying people asking God’s forgiveness, wisdom and provision for our state and nation. There is hope for America. It lies in heaven, and we will find it on our knees.

Sincerely,

Governor

Haven't these people been praying all along to no avail? Maybe their telepathy isn't "loud enough" as individuals.
