not working this
afternoon I checked my Blogger newsfeed to see Joe.My.God. had a post entitled Tony
Perkins: Compulsive Liar. It is an excerpt in which Tony Perkins laments
the Southern Poverty Law Center (SLPC) giving the Family Research Council (FRC)
the status of “hate group” claiming it is due to their “biblically-based
beliefs regarding marriage and human sexuality.” Joe.My.God. also pointed out
that the SPLC does not utilize “Bible-based beliefs” as criteria otherwise the
number of hate groups would explode. In any event, within the excerpt Perkins has
the gall to state that the FRC encourages “love
and respect for all people including those seeking to redefine marriage,”
Perkins continues that the “war of words launched by the SPLC as cover
for its allied organizations on the left has led to an open assault upon those
with whom they disagree. This type of demonizing must stop."
This jogged my memory and I found a speech Perkins gave last year about the repeal of “Don’t Ask. Don’t Tell (DADT).” Perkins stated that:
“Well what we have done is we have undermined national security, we have undermined the future of our country, simply to advance an agenda of a very, very small percentage of America. Now let me be very, very clear here, because in this process we…uhh…there were not very many…there were very few organizations, very few individuals, out speaking on this issue because those that understand the homosexual community, they--the activists--they are very aggressive. Everything they accuse us of, they are in triplicate. They’re intolerant, they’re hateful, they’re vile, they’re spiteful, but I understand that and we certainly…our response should one of love and compassion, but let me tell you what it’s not love to be silent in the face of those who are advancing an agenda that is both destructive to society and more importantly destructive to the individuals involved. To me that is the height of hatred. To be silent when we know they’re are individuals who are engaged in activity, in behavior, and an agenda that will destroy them and our nation. And we have to be very…careful to guard our hearts that we in the midst of this battle don’t become so calloused that we realize that they are not the enemy. The enemy is simply using them as pawns. They are held captive by the enemy.” (emphasis mine)
First of all, this video except shows that Perkins is a hypocrite. I don’t give a damn about the Christian lip service he continues to pay regarding love and respect because everything he says and represents is neither. In his recent comments he says “This type of demonizing must stop," and yet he refers to people fighting for equal treatment under the law as intolerant, hateful, vile, and spiteful. He’s projecting just as the false martyr’s of Christianity do best. What is patently absurd and duplicitous is his request that this “demonizing must stop” and that it comes from “them.” To quote Perkins again: “The enemy is simply using them as pawns. They are held captive by the enemy.” This is demonizing. It may sound like he is deflecting blame, but the “enemy” he refers to Satan. The devil! They really believe the gay rights movement is controlled by the devil. Who is getting demonized here?
Tony Perkins is the president of a hate group. It is obvious to everyone that isn’t filled with religious hate.
