FAMiLY LEADER Statement Suggests Pledge, Signed By Bachmann, Requires Her To Prosecute Essentially All Porn
Conservative group backtracks on marriage pledge slavery language
RE: The slavery comment in the pledge language:
"Slavery had a disastrous impact on African-American families, yet sadly a child born into slavery in 1860 was more likely to be raised by his mother and father in a two-parent household than was an African-American baby born after the election of the USA?s first African-American President,"
Aside from the obvious offensiveness in this statement it also has the not-too-shocking distinction of being. Slave families in the Antebellum American South were regularly split up by their masters. There were probably a lot of reasons for this, but the indisputable, "bottom line" reason was money. People sold off their slaves in times of hardship and if a family needed to be split up then so be it.
It doesn't shock me at all that this fact would be lost on conservatives. Education is never their strong point.
