Hateful rhetoric from religious leaders
Cancer of the Soul |
"George told student John Falcone his 'argument was not with Mother Church but with Mother Nature,' adding that anyone who advocates same-sex marriage or its equivalent 'has lost touch with the common understanding of the human race.'"
"'No one has the right to change marriage,' George went on to say, neither 'the Church' nor 'the state.'"
"While it is one thing 'creating laws so that people don't feel persecuted,' the cardinal explained, 'don't create a law that says apples are oranges.'"via HuffPo
Marriage is a human social construct. It existed long before the Abrahamic religions rose and it existed (and exists) in many different forms. As such it's definition is fluid and not owned by any one culture.
Also, I don't believe anyone is proposing to make laws that says that apples are oranges. I think its just that since apples and oranges can marry some apples want to marry apples and some oranges want to marry oranges. See how silly this is?
I have a sneaking suspicion that what the Cardinal really wants to say that he opposes any law that says apples are human. If you catch my drift...
